Support Public Walkways by Walking Both Sides of the Hudson River on June 8th

FreeWalkers Press Release 5/24/13: Public is invited to join the 2nd annual “Hudson River Loop Walk” and be part of a 30-mile walk along public walkways. Walk the coastline from Jersey City to the GWB to the World Trade Center in a single day. Promote public trails and pedestrianism.

The Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy has been the driving force for the development of the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway which covers the completed 12 miles or so from Exchange Place to Edgewater and then the 3 mile section of this trail that goes from Edgewater to the GWB along River Road (which is not yet complete).

Officially, the walk ends back at Exchange Place, although you could say it also ends at the World Trade Center since a ride on the PATH train is all that's left to finish the walk. Those coming from the NYC side can simply choose to end at the Trade Center. 

It's been our custom to mark a place to meet at the end of a walking event. There's a Pub on Murray St. a couple blocks from the World Trade Center called Eammons Irish Pub which for now will be our ending celebration point. There are also several other places in this City Hall area, including a Shake Shack nearby for those that prefer

We're asking all participants to arrive by 7:30 to take care of some early business before we start promptly at 8:00 a.m. Everyone should do the following as soon as possible after they arrive:

  • Get Bib Number - get a bib number and pins to pin somewhere visible on your short, pack or pants. This is useful to help identify walkers as time goes on and we spread out. You will have a unique number for this walk which will also will be used for picking the drawing prizes.
  • Sign Up - all walkers must sign the Sign Up sheet along with your Bib Number.

The FreeWalkers and the East Coast Greenway invite the Public to Walk the 100-mile Cross-Jersey Walking Challenge in 2012 - Starting with the “Great Canal Walk” on April 7th.
Hoping to repeat and expand the Cross-Jersey Walking Challenge in 2012, the FreeWalkers are offering, for the second year in a row, a challenge to the public to walk across New Jersey in 2012. The program consists of walking 100 miles across the entire state – from Trenton to New York City within the next 12 months.
